Ben E Hill's spotlight in Live! Magazine

live!

As a child living in Baldwin Park Benny Uribe would play football in the streets, his friends called him "Benny Hill". Now ten years later Ben E Hill lives in Colton and is one of the most popular D.j's in the Inland Empire. He started out as a Dj in 1991 playing at Birthdays and Quinceañeras. It was around that time that he was first introduced to the party scene when he went to an all ages club in Riverside called "Attitudes". Back then he would go out just to party and not as a Dj. It wasn't until March of 1995 that he debuted as a Dj in the Inland Empire party scene. The road to becoming a top Dj was not easy for Benny, and the most trying part came before his debut. "To me Deejaying is a hobby," he said. "It's just something I love to do." He loved to Dj so much that he would go to a friends house all the way from Colton to Santa Fe Springs, an hour drive, just to practice. His music is all that he would concentrate on, and the first priority on his mind. "My friends would ask me to go out or to go kick it but I would rather go somewhere and practice." Practicing became a little easier in 1994 when he bought the equipment from his friend in Santa Fe Springs. Now he could practice in the comfort of his own home. Unlike most Dj's Benny learned on his own. The little help he did get was from Dj Cartoon. Cartoon was a top Dj at the time. He played at "The Deep End" Thursday nights at Club Metro, and at many Inland Empire Events. In 1994 Benny would go to practice with Cartoon and he would occasionally give Benny a few tips.

Ben E Hill on Live!

IIn March of 1995 a promoter by the name of Dalley Boy found out about Benny through a friend and put his name on a flyer for an event called "The Way of the Walk," and "DJ Ben E Hill" was born. Benny received such a good response that other promoters began to put his name on their flyers, and Dalley Boy asked him to represent his party crew as their Dj. Benny agreed but later changed his mind. In June of 1996 Benny joined his brother in another party crew called "Chapters". Ben E Hill's name appears on more party flyers in the Inland Empire than any other Dj, but still he downplays the importance of his popularity. "Music is what I stand for," he said. "It's not about being popular, it's all about the music." Besides playing at parties Benny also played at the two most successful underground clubs in the Inland Empire, 5th Dimension & The Saloon. Benny has just begun to achieve, and has potential to be a top Dj. Not only in the I.E, but in all of Southern California.
